Moulded carpet fitted to a right-hand-drive Jeep Wrangler TJ

Jeep Wrangler TJ Flooring: Moulded Carpet or Vinyl?

The original floor covering in a TJ is often worn through, stained or missing by now. Replacing it makes a bigger difference to the cabin than almost anything else. The main choice is between moulded carpet and moulded vinyl, and the right one depends on how you use your Jeep.

Both of the floors we sell are made in Australia for right-hand-drive Wrangler TJ 2 doors, 1996 to 2006, and both are press-moulded to the shape of the TJ floor.

Moulded carpet

Best for: a Jeep that's mainly a daily driver or a factory-style restoration.

  • Warmer and more comfortable underfoot, with a more finished look.
  • Helps reduce road and drivetrain noise in the cabin.
  • Available in two piles. Loop pile at 550 grams per square metre gives a more original look. Plush (cut) pile at 750 grams per square metre is denser and more luxurious.
  • 14 colours to choose from.
  • Harder to clean after mud, sand or wet gear.

See our moulded carpet for the TJ.

Moulded vinyl

Best for: four-wheel driving, beach trips, work vehicles and anyone who takes the doors and roof off.

  • Fully waterproof and won't absorb liquids.
  • Can be hosed out or pressure washed.
  • Heavy-duty PVC that stands up to boots, gear and sand.
  • Needs underlay 8 to 12 mm thick underneath for the best result.
  • 9 colours to choose from.
  • It's a heavy-duty replacement floor, not a replica of the factory flooring.

See our moulded vinyl flooring for the TJ.

What both include

  • Front and rear floor sections
  • Cargo area flooring
  • Wheel arch covers

Fitting tips

  • Remove the seats, centre console and seatbelt anchors before laying the new floor.
  • Lay the floor out in the sun for a while before fitting so it relaxes into shape.
  • Some trimming and hole cutting is needed for seat mounts, seatbelt points and fittings. Mark each hole from underneath or by feel before cutting, and cut small first.
  • Fix any rust in the floor pan before covering it, especially under vinyl, where trapped moisture can sit against the metal.

Lead time

Both floors are made to order in your chosen colour, with an estimated turnaround of 2 to 4 weeks. Because they're made to order, they can't be returned for change of mind, so check the colour before you order.
